DAY 01:AIRPORT – SIGIRIYA / 130KMS / Approx. 03 HOURS+

  • Arrival and Transfer to Sigiriya

After immigration and migration clearance at the counter, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative at the arrival lounge. You will then be escorted to Sigiriya.

Sigiriya may have been inhabited since prehistoric times and was used as a rock-shelter monastery from around the 3rd century BC. Caves were prepared and donated by devotees to the Buddhist Sangha. The famous garden and palace were built by King Kasyapa between 477 - 495 AD. After Kasyapa's death, it became a monastery complex again until the 14th century, after which it was abandoned.

The ruins were rediscovered in 1907 by British explorer John Still. Today, Sigiriya is renowned for its ‘Mirror Wall,’ featuring poems and paragraphs carved by visitors many years ago, as well as its stunning frescoes of shapely, bejeweled maidens in vibrant colors. These frescoes are similar to those found at the Ajanta Caves in India. Sigiriya is considered the best-preserved city center from the first millennium in Asia, and it has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the 8th Wonders of the World.
